#TUNGA KANNADA FONTS MAC OS X#

: A free, open-source office suite project that is Unicode-savvy, OpenType enabled, and able to run on Linux/Sparc, Mac OS X (with X11), and all modern Windows platforms, including Windows 95.

Note: The IMEs are designed specifically for MS Office, and do not function with other software. The IME is a separate application that must be run alongside Microsoft Office software.

Kannada Indic IME: Microsoft's BhashaIndia site provides a set of phonetic input method editors (IMEs), compatible with Windows 2000/XP, for Hindi, Bengali, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, and Tamil.

Windows 2000/XP Keyboard Layouts: Microsoft Windows 2000/XP offer full support for typing with Kannada keyboard layouts in its multilingual support.

Other vowels are indicated with diacritics, which can appear above, below, before or after the consonants.

Type of writing system: Abugida / Syllabic Alphabet, in which all consonants have an inherent vowel.

Under the influence of Christian missionary organizations, Kannada and Telugu scripts were standardized at the beginning of the 19th century. These scripts developed into the Old Kannada script, which by about 1500 had morphed into the Kannada and Telugu scripts.

The Kannada alphabet (аІ•аІЁаіЌаІЁаІЎ аІІаІїаІЄаІї) developed from the Kadamba and CДЃlukya scripts, descendents of Brahmi, which were used between the 5th and 7th centuries AD. Poetry in Kannada started to appear in 700 AD, and literary works from 850 AD.ДЇrom the 14th century Kannada was sometimes written with the Tigalari alphabet, which developed in the 12th century in Karnataka. The earliest known texts in Old Kannada were written in the Brahmi script and are dated at 450 AD. Kannada first appeared in writing as words in Tamil inscriptions dating from the 3rd-1st centuries BC. It is also known as Banglori, Canarese, Havyaka or Kanarese. Kannada is the official and administrative language of Karnataka, and was officially designated a classical language of India in 2011. In 2011 there were about 56.4 million speakers of Kannada, including 43 million native speakers. There are also Kannada speakers in the Indian states of Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Telangana, Goa and Kerala, and in the USA, Singapore, Australia, New Zealand and Canada.

Kannada is a Southern Dravidian language spoken mainly in the state of Karnataka in the southwest of India.
